Mr. Matthew Brown, Sr

Mr. Matthew Brown, Sr. 98, of 4346 SC Hwy 34- 121, Newberry, South Carolina entered into the arms of Jesus on Monday, September 14, 2015 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital in Newberry, SC. Born in Newberry County, he was a son of the late Mr. William Brown and the late Mrs. Clotell Maude Brown Mangum and reared in the home with his late stepfather, Mr. Lane Mangum .

He was a member of Trinity AME Church and was also a member of the male choir and the senior choir.

He was a World War II Army Veteran. 

His wife, Mrs. Hannah Washington Brown, a granddaughter, April Strother and two brothers, Willie Brown and Clarence Jones all preceded him to heaven.

Those who celebrate his life and cherish precious and loving memories are his son, Mr. Matthew Brown, Jr. (Thomasena) of Newberry, SC; two daughters, Ms. Lucretia Strother and Ms. Barbara J. Sims both of Newberry, SC; four grandchildren reared in the home, Takeela Kinard of Columbia, SC, Sharon Holloway (Patrick), Jessica Wilson (Johnnie) and Reginald Strother (Tisha) all of Newberry, SC; nine great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ann Butler of Waterbury, Connecticut and Mrs. Essie Stephens of Detroit, Michigan and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.    

The family will receive friends at the home (4346 SC Hwy 34-121, Newberry, SC)

Funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday, September 18, 2015 at Little River Baptist Church (26561 SC Hwy 34, Silverstreet, SC). (Viewing one hour prior to the service). Burial will follow in Trinity AME Church Cemetery (1338 Green Tree Road, Newberry, SC).
