Mrs. Esther Lee Mayers Miller

Mrs. Esther Lee Mayers (Miller) was born on October 31, 1915 to Pettis and Christina “Tina” Summers Mayers.  She was born in Little Mountain, Lexington County, S.C.  Esther attended the public school system, then moved to Elizabeth, New Jersey where she worked for Phelps Dodge until retirement and moved back to Little Mountain.

She married Willie Cleveland Miller on October 30, 1931 and they have one child, Thenell Miller.

Esther came to the knowledge of the Lord at an early age and was a member of the Providence AME Church for many, many years.  She was a faithful member serving on numerous boards, including Missionary Society, Senior Choir, Mother of the church and as a member of the Woman’s Home Aid Society #97.  Esther was also active in the community serving those in need and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter #294, Rock of Ages.

Esther was preceded to Heaven by her parents, Pettis and Christina “Tina” Mayers; six siblings: Willie Winford Mayers, Odesa “Dessie” Mayers Bowers, Pinkney Mayers, Robert “Alonzo” Mayers, Sr., Perlie Mayers and Maggie Counts; husband, Willie C. Miller and granddaughter, Omara Aiken. 

Those who celebrate her life and cherish precious and loving memories are a loving and devoted daughter, Thenell Miller of the home; two granddaughters, Shianna Aiken and Estashia Miller; nephews, Robert Mayers, Jr. (Diane) and Willie Mayers; niece, Nancy Bowers (Sylvester) and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Esther Lee Mayers Miller entered the arms of Jesus on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at her residence after 100 years of life in service to the Lord.

The family will receive friends at the home (240 Middlefield Road, Little Mountain)

Funeral service and burial will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, January 8, 2016 at Providence AME Church in Little Mountain, 701 Meadowlark Road, Little Mountain, SC (viewing one hour prior to the service).
