Mrs. Shirley Ann Summers Fant, 61, of 422 South Ellis Street, Joanna, South Carolina entered into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Laurens County Memorial Hospital in Laurens, SC.  She was born in Joanna, SC, to Mrs. Helen Wheeler Summers and the late Mr. Willie Summers.

She was a member of Mount Cowell Missionary Baptist Church of Joanna, SC where she served as Deaconess and pulpit aid. She was the president of Joanna Young Women’s Community Action Club for 38 years.  

She retired from the South Carolina Department of Disability and Special Needs. After retiring, she became a part- time employee of Laurens County Coroner’s Office.

Mrs. Fant was preceded to Heaven by a daughter, Victoria Helene Fant and a sister, Claudia Higgins.

Those who celebrate her life and cherish precious and loving memories are her mother, Mrs. Helen Summers of Joanna, SC; husband, John Willie Fant of the home; one son, Vernon Andre Fant of the home; seven grandchildren; one brother, Michael Wilson (Cheryl) of Newberry, SC; five sisters, Mary Lou Cooper (Henry) of Brooklyn, New York, Jean Dublin of Clinton, SC, Vanessa Wesley of Joanna, SC, Denise Mims (Willie) of Clinton, SC and Patricia Wilson (Rev. C.W. Wilson) of Joanna, SC; one uncle, Lewis Burton of Newberry, SC; one aunt, Ruth Sturkey of Clinton, SC; brothers-in-law, Jimmy Higgins of Fayetteville, NC, Obie Long, Jerry Long (Carolyn) and Charles Long all of Newberry, SC; sisters-in-law, Shirley Young (Wallace), Patricia Baylor, Linda Senn (Freddie) and Edith Fant all of Newberry, SC, Evangelist Willie Fant of Joanna, SC, Connie Fant of North Carolina, Synthie Anderson of Laurens, SC, Mary Booker (Vance) of Carlisle, SC, Harriette Gallman of Prosperity, SC and Patricia Abanathy (Isaac) of Columbia, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including devoted friends, Rolanza Wilson of Washington, DC, Ethel Jackson of Charleston, SC, Janice Nelson of Clinton, SC, Mary Burton, Willie Mae Simpson and Barbara McBeth all of Joanna, SC .

The family will receive friends at the home (422 South Ellis Street, Joanna, SC).

Funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Mount Cowell Missionary Baptist Church, 212 Morgan Street, Joanna, SC (viewing one hour prior to the service). Burial will follow in Orchard Park Memorial Gardens in Clinton, SC.
